My truffle hog and I

You want to make a mushroom soup. Therefore, you have to search some mushrooms in the woods. If you listen to your truffle hog, you may even find a truffle in a secret area. You need at least 100 points to return home and make your delicious soup; however, if you really are into mushroom gathering, you can score a total of 200 points! You might even find another secret place on your adventure.

You can play the game directly in your browser or download the zipped game (below) and play it offline. If you choose the download option, unzip the folder and open the file My truffle hog and I.exe. It starts in full-screen mode; to close the game use ALT+F4.

My truffle hog and I is a project for the Newbies Game Jam 2023-2. This was the first game jam for my friend Karin and me, Marco. We are very happy how the project turned out. While Karin was in charge of the beautiful art and sprites of the game, I did the programming and game design in Unity.

The game idea is inspired by local traditions and laws. We live in the alps and while there are mushrooms, there are strict rules when and where they may be collected. Mushrooms may only be collected in the own municipality on even dates in a limited quantity. That's why the calendar is in the game (upper left corner) showing an odd date (August 29th). The man must hide from the ranger to avoid penalty.
